Prayer Meetings
Pre-worship Prayer starts with a short message by Rev. Kiyoko Murakami
and is held on Sundays from 10:20am in the sanctuary. In the Morning
Prayer on February 18th, she shared the story of a letter from one of
her relatives, who had become a Christian about 5 years ago. Her relative
is 84 years old, the same age as Rev. Murakami. The letter was about
encouraging each other as Christians. In the letter, she introduced
a poem called "The Greatest Work" which Father Hermann Heuvers
was given by his friend. "What is the greatest work in the world?
Glow old with joy in your heart. Take a rest when wishing to work. Be
silent when wanting to speak, keep faith when being discouraged, and
carry your cross obediently and peacefully. Do not be jealous when seeing
younger people walk in the light of God vigorously. Be humble to be
helped by others instead of working for them. Be gentle and kind even
if getting weak and not being able to help others. The burden of aging
is a gift from God. Finally polish up old hearts with such gift in order
to go to the real home. Unlacing the chains that tie to this world is
not an easy task. Just accept humbly the fact of being unable to do
much work. God leaves us the greatest work, which is prayer. Even if
hands are not working well, they can still fold to pray for God's mercy
to be poured upon all loved ones. At the end of life, you will hear
the voice of God, saying "Come, my friend, I shall never desert
you." Rev. Murakami, who emphasizes the importance of daily prayers,
said that she read this poem in tears. God allows us to dedicate prayers
in which people can fellowship with God until the end though we cannot
control our body very well as we get older.
